RAAASTRICK DEFEATED 5th July at HQ

14 July 2008

Saturday 5th July. Rastrick 59 vs Slaithwaite 61-1 Another brief gap in the monsoon allowed an equally brief encounter with a Rastrick side apparently bereft of half the side that trounced Marsden last week. However, you can only beat what’s in front of you and our clinical performance would have disposed of most. Having won the toss and chosen to bat, their skipper appeared to have been another victim of the Welshman’s hypnotic manipulation but was, in fact, just a mad Australian. To say Rastrick’s top order took a positive approach is somewhat of an understatement as 6 out of the first 7 batsmen would have been more at home on the baseball diamond. The tactic didn’t pay off as The Metronome’s 2-20 was as straight as you like removing the opening pair and Rastrick struggled with Geoff’s outswing as he regularly beat the bat throughout his 16 over spell, finishing with 3-27. The Accidental Angler showed he’s not as fishy as he’s trout-looking, tidying up the tail in consumate fashion with 4-8 in 6.1. The visitors finished 59ao in 30 overs that produced very little incident apart from FS catching one in his chest cavity (no doubt in tribute to our absent Fineskeeper), and a young scallywag giving the vampire some lip – the fact that 2 of his teamates were, at the time, suspended for similar misdemeanors clearly oblivious to the empty head. Even less to report in the 2nd half with the total overhauled in 15 overs, as Butch Dingle was unbeaten on 28 with 17 extras the next best contribution, most of which came from the Aussie who must have either been bowling with his eyes shut, or Jerry Lee Cassell prepared his packed lunch.
